Over the last 30 years we have carried out many successful and often difficult woodland establishment and improvement projects throughout Scotland. Notable projects;
Extensive Caledonian Pinewood establishment, native woodland creation, Rhododendron clearance and scrub control and general woodland management and improvement.
The Hirsel Estate, Coldstream –
General improvement of traditional estate woodlands maximising woodland opportunities, sympathetic harvesting of quality Oak within S.S.S.I. and designed landscape with public access over a 30 year period resulting in some of the finest mixed woodlands in south Scotland which have been appreciated by the Scottish Forestry Society and Woodland Heritage.
Badgers Law, Duns –
250ha comprehensive restoration of condition of poorly established upland commercial woodland area to a worthwhile commercial crop now producing quality timber.
Whitchester Wood, Duns –
160ha restructuring upland commercial woodland to improve age class structure, diversity and timber quality and fully realising all opportunities and benefits resulting in successful sale by developer to neighbouring owner and onward production of worthwhile timber.
Gordon Community Woodland, Gordon –
in 1992 Finlay Mitchell purchased part (80ha) of East Gordon Farm and designed, planted and establishing an outstanding mixed woodland area with a strong emphasis on timber production from native species. Once established the area was marketed and purchased by local community and now providing excellent walking and outdoor facilities along with producing Christmas Trees and eventual revenue from timber sale. Probably one of the best young mixed species Community Woodlands in Scotland with interest ranging from Caledonian Pinewood, native Birchwood, productive Oak, productive Scots Pine, productive Poplar and productive Sycamore. Very good attention to open ground and riparian corridors providing backbone for excellent path network.
Timber Harvesting & Marketing –
We have marketed trees of the highest quality throughout Scotland, and timber from our operations have been used in some of the most prestigious joinery projects; The Globe Theatre, Stirling Castle, Rothschild Archive.
